Art Therapy
Art therapy is a form of
expressive therapy that uses art materials, such as paints,
chalk, and clay. Clients in art therapy may paint, draw, work with
collage, sculpt, construct masks or three dimensional works, and more. Art therapy combines traditional
psychotherapeutic theories and techniques with an
understanding of the
psychological aspects of the creative process, especially the
affective properties of the different art materials.
When clients
express themselves through art, an art
therapist can help them see things about themselves that may otherwise
be unconscious to them. Art therapists can help
clients process emotions and feelings that they are struggling with in a
deeper way than processing with alone can accomplish. Since our art therapists are trained in the arts
and in therapy, they are capable of guiding clients through the process
of
psychological and emotional healing
utilizing creative expression.
Our
art therapists work with children, adolescents, and adults.
Art therapy is widely accepted as an effective modality for working with
a wide variety of issues from personal growth to post traumatic stress.
